Arturo Fuente Anejo cigars have an interesting legend attached to them.
These cigars, it is said, were born of necessity. They are derived from the highly acclaimed Fuente Opus X cigars. Now the Opus X used a famed Dominican wrapper, grown by the Fuente family in their estates. However, misfortune struck in the form of Hurricane George in 1998. It swept across the entire region, destroying the exquisite wrapper tobacco plants.
Within a short time, there was a shortage of good-quality Opus X wrapper tobacco. However, Carlos Fuente Jr, decided to use this as an opportunity to create another new brand. Using the same filler and binder as the Opus X, he created a new cigar with a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. And that's how the Arturo Fuente Anejo was born. The filler and binder tobaccos are carefully cultivated and aged to enhance their richness and taste. The Connecticut Broadleaf wrappers are aged for 5 years in cognac barrels, adding an extra dimension to the emanating smoke.
The cigar starts with a woody aroma, along with a hint of cognac. The cognac slowly takes over with notes of spice, oak and pepper. The dominant cognac flavor is later accompanied by the rich maduro flavors of cocoa and coffee, with a slight suggestion of cinnamon. The Arturo Fuente Anejo has a complex flavor profile that's dynamic enough to entice your palate. This cigar is available in different sizes, but the most interesting is the Shark, an unusual shape. It is also available in other conventional vitolas. These classy, medium-strength cigars are handcrafted by the Fuente family. They are available in boxes of 20.
