In the early 20th century, there was a brand of sweet, mild, and smooth cigars named American Classics. Now, American Classic is an Alec Bradley offing that debuted in July of 2011. Alan Rubin explains the inspiration behind American Classic on the company website saying:
" I was inspired by a conversation with my Dad; reminiscing about the simpler times of yesteryear. During our chat, he spoke about the types of cigars that he and his buddies once smoked. Back in my Dad’s day, cigars were flavorful and hearty – yet, smooth on the palate. I went to the factory and blended a cigar to be smoked any time of day, every day. That cigar is American Classic."
American Classic is therefore made to resemble the old style Tampa-made cigars in taste. When Cigar Insider asked Alan Rubin how he could possibly know what a cigar from the Teddy Roosevelt administration would have tasted like, he said: “I’ve smoked some very old cigars, vintage cigars. There wasn’t a heck of a lot [of flavor] left in them, but in some respects one could imagine what they originally tasted like. I know that people didn’t analyze cigars back then like they do now. They liked them smooth and mild.”
American Classic Blend
American Classic is a mild to medium cigar featuring an all Nicaraguan blend of fillers from Condega and Esteli. These are enrobed in a Nicaraguan Jalapa binder and finished off in a Honduran-grown Connecticut Shade wrapper.
American Classic is made at Nestor Plasencia’s Segovia Factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. It comes in 24-count boxes and six different sizes namely:
-
Corona: 5 1/2 x 42

American Classic is billed as a mild to medium blend. It starts off mild and gets darker and more complex as it progresses. Expect light creamy cedar and nutty nuances in the beginning and dark, almost bitter chocolate and espresso notes towards the nub.
