Arnold Schwarzenegger: The King of Cigars

When you think of Arnold Schwarzenegger, you’ll immediately visualize this actor with a premium cigar. We’ve all seen him on screen hunting aliens, driving a massive tank, and searching for terrorists with his prized possession; a stogie. 

With Arnold, life imitates art. Schwarzenegger is a huge cigar aficionado and connoisseur. He can be seen in his everyday life smoking some of the world’s finest. Paparazzi photographs of Schwarzenegger include him at movie premier appearances, dinner, shopping and after a long flight. All of those aforementioned photographs include his favorite item, a cigar.

The Terminator actor is a lifelong cigar aficionado. He is renowned in the industry for his passion. In 1996, Schwarzenegger achieved a new level of celebrity with his cover on Cigar Aficionado. In November 2014 he was named the Cigar Smoker of the Year at the Spectator Cigar Awards ceremony.

Recently,Schwarzeneggermade a guest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. This tenured cigar veteran reminisced with cigar amateur Jimmy Fallon on air about his worst cigar smoke-- ever. The night before the show these two went to the Havana Room. The Havana Room is an exclusive cigar club in Los Angeles that has a strict member only entry. The seasoned cigar veteran and the cigar newbie went in to enjoy a nice smoke. This visit to the Havana Room showed Schwarzenegger how little Fallon knew about smoking. While on air, he described his night with Fallon and the numerous rookie moves that Fallon fell victim to.

Let’s take some tips from the Terminator himself. Here are his rules on perfecting the cigar smoking process:

Rule # 1: Don’t cough.

Rule #2: Don’t lick the cigar.

And another very important tip from the King of Cigars: Look cool.

Schwarzenegger has some very important rules which emphasize the extremely common mistakes that beginners make. Schwarzenegger’s first rule is immensely important. If you inhale you will cough and your enjoyable smoke will be ruined. This is commonly seen with cigarette smokers since they are used to smoking with a strong inhale. 

When it comes to a cigar, the smoking process is different. This is the main adjustment that cigarette smokers and inexperienced cigar smokers need to make when they begin smoking cigars. Inhaling a cigar is guaranteed to make you cough hence ruining your nice smoke. You should gently draw smoke into your mouth, comfortably hold in there to savor the flavors and softly puff out the smoke. The terminator’s philosophy for everyone is to “just suck on it nice and slow and the ashes will glow. Calm. Slow."

A lot of people believe that by licking the cigar it will actually make the cigar burn at a slower speed. That is actually a huge misconception. This common mistake is an obvious sign that you are new to cigar smoking, so try to avoid licking the cigar. 

Looking cool is another important aspect when it comes to sparking up. In order to look cool you need to be present in the moment and enjoy. Tips to achieve the cool status: turn the cigar slowly, sit back and puff. Schwarzenegger had some great advice for newcomers and he definitely taught Fallon some important rules and tips.
