Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown Gordo is a 91 rated Nicaraguan puro created to celebrate Perdomo's 20 years of making great cigars. This blend utilizes Cuban seed tobaccos from the fertile regions of Jalapa, Esteli and Condega for the filler. The wrapper is a reddish brown sun grown leaf that has been fermented and aged for 14 months in bourbon barrels. Once the stick has been hand rolled it receives a light box pressing. Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown Gordo is 6 x 60 and available in boxes of 24 cigars.

The Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown is well-rolled, though a bit soft. However, this is to be expected of a box-pressed cigar. The Sun Grown cigar is quite dark, and it has a light oily sheen. The wrapper does have some veining, but the veins aren't particularly noticeable. The band is very large and eye-catching. Some might think that it is a little too large, and perhaps the single band could have been split into two.
The unlit cigar gives off enticing aromas of cinnamon, tonka bean, and caramel. The cold draw also has a caramel flavor, with additional notes of leather and musk.
The first few draws after lighting the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown are dynamic and give off a totally different flavor than the cold draw. The dominant flavor throughout the first third of the cigar is rosewood. There is also a rich hint of nutmeg underneath the rosewood. There is even a bit of citrus flavor throughout the first third of the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown. While the first third of the cigar does have a complex and delicious flavor, it tends to burn a little unevenly. Overall, the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown's first third is quite impressive, certainly better than the related Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut cigar.
The mid-third portion of the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown is quite different than the first third, with the flavors transitioning rather rapidly as you finish the first part of the cigar. The mid-third is dominated by pleasant woody flavors. The most prevalent of these woody flavors is oak. However, agarwood flavors are also present throughout this portion of the cigar. The agarwood gives the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown a bit of leathery flavor, which balances out the oak nicely. The cigar even has a hint of coffee in the mid-third. This portion of the cigar is quite resinous. However, it is also a bit dry. It might be a good idea to pair this cigar with a premium beverage to keep the smoking experience from getting too dry as you move onto the final third.
The slightly uneven burn rate of the cigar becomes a bit more of an issue in the final third. It will most likely require touching up. However, this is the only flaw of the cigar's final third. The oak and coffee notes that became dominant in the mid-third portion of the cigar continue throughout the final third. The leathery agarwood flavor, however, fades away in the final portion of the cigar. It is replaced by a strong peppery flavor as the cigar is smoked down to the nub. The oak and coffee flavors also persist all the way to the nub.
The Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown has a very smooth mouthfeel all the way through. It does leave behind a light residue as you finish the cigar, but the residue is pleasant and dissipates quickly. The Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown should be paired with a drink, as it does have a distinct astringence that will leave your mouth dry if you do not have a beverage. However, it does leave a balanced and delicious after-taste upon finishing your smoking experience. The Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown even leaves behind a pleasant scent, with oaky aromas lingering long afterward.
In conclusion, the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown is an excellent cigar with a few minor flaws. It has a balanced yet dynamic flavor profile that incorporates a strong woody taste with notes of fruit and coffee. It can cause a bit of dry mouth, so you should pair it with a drink. As the wrapper is matured in a bourbon barrel, bourbon would be a fitting choice. The Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown does tend to burn a little unevenly, so be prepared to touch it up. Overall, it is an excellent smoke that is well worth the relatively affordable price.
