However, when a new wave of demand called for milder cigars, Oliva Cigars responded in kind by releasing Oliva Connecticut Reserve. Rolled in the mild, creamy and versatile Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf, Oliva Connecticut Reserve is the mildest offing in the Oliva Cigars portfolio.
The Blend
Oliva Connecticut Reserve is a smooth, silky, medium-bodied cigar debuted in 2009 and rolled at the TABOLISA factory in Nicaragua. It’s a largely Nicaraguan blend encased in an Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf.
The wrapper is very light, almost golden brown with minimal veins and a flawless round head. Ecuadorian Connecticut is an oily wrapper that presents with a shimmery sheen. Not much is disclosed about the filler and binder except that they’re Nicaraguan.

Tasting Notes
The foot presents pleasant aromas of cinnamon, refreshing straw, caramel, milk chocolate, and vanilla. As expected, the Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper brings a creamy, toasted hay nuance to the tantalizing sweetness of the Nicaraguan blend.
Light coffee, cream, cedar, sweetness, mild spice, and rich earth are the dominant flavours. While most mild cigars sacrifice flavour to achieve the mild to medium body, Oliva Connecticut Reserve is flavourful enough to attract both novices and veterans. Sold at such an attractive price, Oliva Connecticut Reserve can easily become your everyday cigar.
About Oliva Cigars
Although Oliva Cigar Co. was registered in 1995, the story of Oliva began much earlier with Melanio Oliva in 1886 when he started a tobacco farm in Cuba's Pinar del Rio area. In the wake of the Cuban Revolution of 1964, Melanio's grandson Gilberto Oliva and his family emigrated to Spain.
That prompted Gilberto Oliva to start over in the tobacco industry in Nicaragua. Eventually, after decades of growing and trading in cigars and tobacco, Gilberto Oliva debuted the first Oliva Cigar in 1995 in collaboration with the Placensia Family. Since that first cigar, Oliva Cigars etched an immense presence in the cigar industry until it was acquired by J. Cortes Cigars in the summer of 2016.
J. Cortes Cigars acquired Oliva Cigars to add premium hand-rolled cigars to their portfolio. In 2018 J. Cortes acquired the Oliva’s tobacco growing farms which completed the sale of Oliva Cigars from growing and curing to blending and selling. J. Cortes has continued producing Oliva Cigars the same way the Oliva Family did since inception.
